Our Vision & Mission

Our Vision

A world where data, technology, and human centered innovation serve as powerful tools for gender equality, social justice, and inclusive development.

We envision a future where:

Marginalized voices are amplified through human centered and evidence based, decision-making.

Technology is ethical, feminist-driven, and accessible, creating real change

Data is a catalyst for transformation, helping organizations and communities better address their development challenges, mobilize resources, and drive impact at scale.

At The FemTech Collective, we don’t just work with data and technology—we redefine how it’s used to create a more equitable, just, and sustainable world.

Our Mission

The FemTech Collective, exists to turn information into action—bridging the gap between technology, data, and social justice.

We do this by:

Designing and implementing inclusive, feminist-driven data and information systems using technology appropriate tools.

• Supporting organisations to adopt ethical and responsible data and technology-based practices, prioritizing privacy, consent, and accountability.

Empowering communities by making data work for them, not against them.

Strengthening the capacity of organizations to collect, manage, and analyze data for impact.

Driving evidence-based decision-making that leads to real, measurable and lasting change.

Our goal? To revolutionize how data and technology are used in humanitarian and development settings—ensuring that no one is left behind.

Our Story

At The FemTech Collective, we don’t just understand data and technology—we know what it takes to drive real change in the humanitarian and development world.

Our founders— Teemar Kidane, Georgette Schutte, and Austine Omiunu — started their respective careers in child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), gender equality, public health, and protection. But as we worked in these critical fields, we saw firsthand how data, information management, and technology (DIMT) could be game-changers—accelerating impact, improving decision-making, and strengthening accountability.

We found ourselves at the crossroads of two worlds: frontline programming and cutting-edge data, information management, and technology for development and humanitarian action. As key members of the global GBVIMS technical team, Teemar and Georgette supported 20 countries in launching, scaling, and sustaining GBV data systems. We saw firsthand the overwhelming demand for DIMT expertise—and the severe shortage of specialists who could bridge the gap between technology and thematic programming.

As experts in development, we have seen the struggles faced by governments and organizations of finding the right technical support, slow progress and lack of evidence to show impact. The rapid evolution of technology has created powerful opportunities to transform humanitarian and development work, yet low-income countries remain far behind, and many organizations lack the technical capacity to harness and maintain these solutions ethically and effectively.

That’s where we come in. We have a rare and powerful combination: deep thematic expertise and the technical know-how to leverage data and technology for impact.

We don’t just design programs—we supercharge them with the right tools, insights, and strategies to accelerate progress.

With only five years left to achieve the SDGs, the need for this expertise has never been greater. Our mission is simple: ensure every country, organization, and team has the technical support they need—right at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere.

The future of humanitarian and development work is data and technology-driven, and we’re here to lead the way.

OUR PEOPLE

Our team of professionals believe in a paradigm shift where data, information and ethical and inclusive technology are positioned as the catalyst for transformative development and humanitarian action through inclusive, feminist driven approaches

Teémar Kidane is a passionate advocate for gender equality and protection. An Eritrean-Swedish expert with over 20 years of experience, and a strong academic background in law and humanitarian action, she has dedicated her career to driving impact in humanitarian action, protection and gender-based violence (GBV).

Since 2008, Teémar has worked with the UN in gender equality, protection, and humanitarian response, leading large-scale programs and mobilizing millions in funding for women and girls’ empowerment. In 2012, she stepped into the world of data and information management, and for over a decade, she has been at the forefront of using technology to revolutionize development and humanitarian work. As a former member of the GBVIMS global team, she has supported over 20 countries in harnessing data, information and technology (DIMT) to strengthen GBV response and protection systems.

Teémar co-founded The FemTech Collective to bridge a critical gap—the shortage of experts who combine thematic knowledge and experience with cutting-edge expertise in data, information, and technology. She is driven by an unwavering belief that harnessing DIMT can revolutionize humanitarian and development work. With only five years left to achieve the SDGs, she is committed to ensuring that every country, organization, and team has access to the technical support they need to accelerate progress and drive real, lasting change, at scale.

Georgette Schutte is a gender and GBV specialist with over 18 years of experience in gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, child protection, and safeguarding. She is a recognized expert in GBV information management systems (GBVIMS), case management, and data-driven approaches to service provision. Georgette has worked extensively with UN agencies, NGOs, and governments to develop and implement GBVIMS+, PRIMERO, and other administrative data systems, enhancing survivor-centered case management and improving the use of GBV data for policy and programmatic decision-making. She has trained frontline service providers, developed guidance on child marriage and caseworker safety, and led the design of digital tools for monitoring and reporting GBV trends in humanitarian and development settings. With a collaborative, field-responsive approach, she is committed to leveraging technology and data to strengthen systems that empower women and girls.
